LOST Venue Style Sheet
Items within this VSS represent alterations to common methods and avenues
from the general Camarilla. It is required that all members attending CAiNE
and portraying their Lost characters during the weekend read, understand,
and comply with the guidelines detailed below. Attendance and portrayal at
CAiNE Requiem constitutes understanding and acceptance of the guidelines.
Theme: Return of the Rails
Theme Song: Gordon Lightfoot's Railroad Trilogy
Theme Virtue/Vice : Faith / Wraith
Setting
The railway built this nation, and now someone (or something) is building a
new railway. Appearing in odd places in the Hedge, this new train runs on
the Trods between cities. Who runs it? Why does it run? How does it work?
Those are good questions, but few have answers. Now the Grand Trunk Railway
is coming to your city - will you investigate it?
Rules Section
CAINE 2010 - Lost uses all White Wolf books and secondary resources
described as sanctioned within the Camarilla Global Addenda and Canadian
National Addenda. Any alterations, additions, or removals from this
addendum will be detailed below. Note: While all of the Changeling hardcopy
books will be on hand, SAS books may not be. If you have items from those
books, or items that have been created and approved by the Camarilla, please
bring a printout of those materials with you.
Glamour:
All PCs will enter play with one half of their maximum Glamour (rounding
up), plus one additional Glamour for each dot in the Harvest Merit, plus one
additional Glamour for each appropriate Glamour producing Oath.
Character Records
Players are required to bring two printed copies (neatly handwritten ink is
acceptable, but pencil is not) of all changeling character sheets with them.
One of these will be given to the In Character Check-in Team and the other
is for player use during the event.
Character Sheets are required to have the following:
* Player name, Camarilla membership number, Storyteller name, email
address, and Camarilla membership number on the title section
* A complete Experience log that includes a creation log,
Experience awards, and all required approval numbers required by your
affiliate. Approvals must include any approval requirements as well as
relevant comments by approving officers.
* Detailed listing of all mechanics applicable to their character
from sources not found in the core Hard Copy Changeling the Lost books or
the World of Darkness MET (blue) book. If you do not have these mechanics
on hand, they will not be accessible to your character.
* CAINE 2010 - Lead Approval numbers for all custom items (items
not found in a published White Wolf Requiem Source book) and all items not
native to the Lost Venue.
* Up to date information about the newly implemented milestones.
Approval Restrictions
* Custom Mechanics and Approvals above High: All custom mechanics
and approvals above high must be pre-submitted to the Venue Lead along with
the attached approval numbers 2 weeks prior to CAiNE. They must also be
present in some form of write-up on the character sheet submitted at IC
registration upon arrival at the convention. If these are not approved prior
to the event, they may not be allowed. Yes, this was mentioned above, but
it's important enough to mention twice.
* Gadgetry: Things that belong in a James Bond/Cyberpunk movie may
not be allowed. If the effect is a material or item intended to duplicate
existing abilities in game (such as miniature hand-held cameras to spot
those using Obfuscate, etc.), they may also not be allowed. Consult the Lead
Venue Storyteller to see if the items you have are considered exceptions to
this rule. Items that fall under this aspect will be removed from character
sheets at check-in if they are not approved before the event.
* NPCs: Non Player Characters on site must be approved with the
Lead Storyteller (and must have a CAiNE Requiem Lead approval number) 1 week
in advance of the event. This includes having retainers on site and other
merit-based NPC's. If these are not approved prior to the event, they will
not be allowed.
* Cross-Venue:All requests for Cross-Venue PC interactions within
the Lost Venue must be approved by the Venue Lead prior to CAiNE. If these
are not approved prior to the event, they will not be allowed.
* Storytellers may petition to incorporate their plotlines and/or
NPCs into CAiNE Lost. If approval is not obtained, plot effects and items
are considered out of play or "switched off" for the duration of CAiNE Lost.
Proxy Rules
Though proxy play is permitted by the Camarilla rules supplements, proxy
characters are not allowed for CAiNE Lost.
Experience Awards
The standard experience award for CAiNE Requiem will be 4 Experience per
full session played. Players will be encouraged to nominate others for
bonus XP based on Costuming and / or Roleplaying.
* Experience for a good death may be awarded by the Venue Lead
Storyteller or Event Storytellers for character deaths occurring during the
convention only. Applications for good death after the event must be made
through the Event Storyteller and not through the characters normal approval
chain.
Storyteller Empowerment
Mass combat and scenes with over six participants, because of their tendency
to escalate quickly into time freezes that will tie up characters, will be
carefully monitored. A Storyteller may pull a large scene off the main floor
and into the ST Scene Resolution room. The Storyteller is empowered to
determine when and how other characters are allowed to enter such scenes. If
any players argue with any of the Storytellers, or otherwise disrupt the
flow of the scene, that player can be asked by a Storyteller to hand their
character sheet over to the them and leave the game, at which point the PC
will be scripted out of game in a manner fully at the discretion of the Lead
Storyteller. The Storyteller staff's main priority is to get through the
entirety of the game with as little time consuming challenges as possible
and there will be little tolerance for disruption of game flow. Any and all
ST's or narrators have authority over how the game is run and on-site rules
calls. Any arguing or disruption of game will not be tolerated.
ST Scene Resolution Rooms
Our killbox space is limited. If players are planning in advance to require
use of a "killbox" (or "ST Resolution Space, if you will), it is highly
recommended that they reserve as ST Resolution Room by requesting use of the
space from the Venue Storyteller Lead by e-mail in advance in order to
ensure that both space and ST authority are available. Please remember that
we only have one slot to play Lost, and no one wants to spend all that time
in a Killbox.
Once you have entered into a Killbox scene, you are frozen from play until
released by the presiding ST. Releases will only occur once approvals used
in the scene have been verified. Should custom mechanics be misused in the
scene, the STs reserve the right to invoke the MST's continuity powers to
correct the scene and will narrate the revised outcome.
In the interests of moving the game along, and not bogging down someone's
entire weekend with combat-rules-dice/card-play, there will be strict rules
of etiquette within the Killbox spaces (and outside of them if there is
combat situations):
1) Players will be asked to pull initiatives, and to line up in order, from
highest to lowest.
2) If it is not your initiative, you should not be speaking above a bare
whisper. Should the ST feel you are interrupting, you will (in order of
disruptions): 1) lose your initiative for the round, 2) lose your action for
the round, 3) be removed from the killbox scene, and asked to turn your
character sheet over to the presiding ST for the duration of the scene.
3) This is not the place for an argument with the ST. Please have your
character sheet ready, your dice pools figured out (and jotted down), and
any extra rules sheets that you may need ready (e.g. for Bloodline
disciplines, etc.). If you are arguing with the ST after a call has been
made, you may be asked to turn your character sheet over to the ST, and
leave the scene.
4) On your initiative, please know what you are doing. The ST will reserve
the right to withhold initiatives for players who are taking up too much
time to decide their current action. Please remember, combat rounds are very
rapid: chances are if you can't begin to vocalize your character's action in
under 5 seconds, then you're too surprised to know what to do that round.
Any Character involved in a PvP killbox or scene resulting in character
death or removal from play is required to be audited by the presiding ST.
The outcome of the audit will not affect the outcome of the scene, however
if there are discrepancies on the character sheet that cannot be explained
by the player, disciplinary action from xp being docked up to and including
de-sanctioning of the character may be taken.
Venue Destructive Effects
Actions, effects, and mass destruction effects have the potential to really
mess up things, and could result in IG repercussions. Heck, the Others
might even notice a big enough bang. With that in mind, we aren't going to
say no to much.
Glamour and Willpower
All characters are assumed to be at full Willpower when they arrive for
CAiNE Lost, minus what is spent on any prior to start of game. Characters
who wish to refresh their Willpower pools as per the rules '''must''' do so,
with proper justification expressed, to a presiding Storyteller. Since we
only have one slot, refilling Glamour will only be done in play.
Oaths, Vows, and other strangeness
If you have any weird Oaths, Vows, or anything that is really out of the
ordinary, make sure we know ahead of time. There's nothing worse than
unveiling your Cool Power and then play stops because the STs need to look
up the effects.
Player Advisory
The World of Darkness is not a happy place. From time to time, the Lead
Storytellers in a venue may use adult themes, vivid descriptions, and
contentious social issues to bring the World of Darkness to life. For those
familiar with the White Wolf tabletop material, some plot elements or themes
could be considered "Black Dog" material. Such themes and issues may include
racism, sexism, bigotry, prejudice, sexual assault, and extreme violence.
If, at any time, a player feels uncomfortable with a scene, the player
should immediately inform the Storyteller running the scene. The Storyteller
will either tone down scene so that the player is once again comfortable
participating in it, or will excuse the player from the scene and hand the
PC to a Narrator or other designated representative to finish out the scene
without breaking continuity.
Appeals
Appeals resulting from CAiNE Requiem will be accepted via email up to 30
days after the Lost session by emailing the Lead Venue Storyteller . If the
ruling was made by the Lead Venue Storyteller, notification of an appeal
will be made to the CAiNE Lead and CAiNE Lead Storyteller. The appeal,
investigation, and resulting actions will also be handled by the CAiNE
Storytelling and Event Team.
